Maracuyá’s artist residency program provides artists with 24hr live/work accommodations in our scenic beach-front property 3km from the US–MEX border wall, as well as curatorial and administrative support. The application process is free and open to all. Applications are accepted and reviewed year-round, however priority will be given to artists that apply during the open call cycles. The residency is free thanks to the support of the Zurita family and other grants, however accepted artists will be responsible for their travel and personal expenses. Transportation to and from the airport will be provided. Maracuyá will issue acceptance letters for successful applicants to support their applications for external grants.
Maracuyá is an artist residency program and project space dedicated to the advancement of contemporary art. Situated in a quiet beach town outside the vibrant city of Tijuana, Mexico; Maracuyá provides a relaxing place to conduct research, build networks, explore, contemplate, share ideas, and engage in creative work alongside a diverse community of engaged thinkers. Our investment in challenging ideas extends to the artist residency structure as a space of expected production and exhibition; we strive to foster an environment where research and thinking are valued equally to production and exhibition. Private studio visits are available, as well as opportunities to present work to select audiences in the Tijuana–San Diego transborder area.
Maracuyá counts with a vaulted loft with a living area upstairs and studio downstairs; a small gallery; an open-floor flat; a one bedroom apartment with office/studio space; two small workshops, and a large ocean-front patio. In addition to these spaces, the main house—the original structure on this property, a Mexican-style villa with scenic ocean views—is available for communal dinners and invited guests.
2 Weeks – 1 Month (shorter or longer in exceptional cases)
Applicants are asked to specify their preferred duration and dates—negotiable if accepted according to studio availability and scheduling. Artist collectives of up to 3-4 people are welcome to apply for an individual residency spot.
